tilapia recipes :: where to find them

tilapia recipes - I'm am always on the lookout for them. Especially if they're free! I love the flavor of tilapia , I think one of the reasons is that as a fish it is quite mild tasting so it doesn’t dominate the flavor of the other ingredients so plenty of room for experimentation. It doesn’t have a strong odor either.

The great news is that because of its mild flavor and excellent cooking quality there are heaps of free recipe ideas on the internet covering many different cooking styles and cuisines. This can be really helpful when you’re scratching your head for inspiration with a pound of tilapia on the chopping board in front of you..

One of the sites I like to go for free tilapia recipes and ideas is the American Tilapia Association official website at http://ag.arizona.edu/azaqua/ata.html . The site offers free recipes covering a broad range of styles including Texas, Calypso, Brazilian and Asian dishes. While your dish is cooking take the time read some of other information – you could get lost in this site- it has things like nutritional content and also information about farming and care which I liked. For example I didn’t realize that it originates from Africa and is an introduced fish. That if the skin is pink the cooked flesh can be pink otherwise the flesh is usually white.

I noticed another really big market for Tilapia seems to be for USA- Asian restaurants. There was quite an interesting article printed in the Journal & Courier (Lafayette) newspaper published 08-18-07 where an entrepreneur from Tippecanoe County has started a fish farm to raise tilapia for the large Asian market across Indianapolis, Chicago and Champaign, Ill. Like he’s talking 300,000 pounds a year. That’s a lot of fish to cook!

The blog forums are good sources too. I also like browsing the ebooks libraries that are available for general recipes – I like this one which I joined recently. I have included the link below, I'd be interested to know what you think

Anyway why not do something different for dinner? Have a look at the tilapia recipes on the Tilapia Association site if you want somewhere to start and perhaps try a new gourmet dish with that pound of fish!
